COLLINSVILLE—A key figure in a corruption case involving the Henry County Sheriff’s Department is scheduled to be released from prison July 4.

Former Sheriff H. Franklin Cassell has been serving an eight-month sentence at a federal penitentiary near Scranton, Pa.
A spokesman for the Bureau of Prisons said the 70-year-old Cassell will be under supervision for two years after his release.

Under an agreement with prosecutors, Cassell pleaded guilty last May to one count of lying to federal investigators about a scheme to sell drugs and guns seized from criminals. He was among 13 current and former officers indicted in November 2006.
