W. Reilly Marchant of Marchant, Honey & Baldwin LLP became the Richmond Bar Association’s 124th president on June 1. Marchant earned his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in 1975 and received his law degree from the University of Richmond in 1979. His practice focuses on employment law, general civil litigation, family law and commercial and residential real estate, among other areas.
Other new officers are:

The Greater Richmond Bar Foundation recently elected the following officers for the 2008-2009 year:

Tyler P. Brown and G. Andrew Nea Jr. were elected to serve two-year terms on the board of directors. In addition, the following board members were re-elected for two year terms: William G. Broaddus, Gerald W.S. Carter, Leslie A.T. Haley, Anne D. McDougall, John M. Oakley Jr., Douglas E. Weatherley and Thomas M. Wolf.

Two attorneys have joined the law firm of Troutman Sanders LLP.
David H. Sump has joined the transportation practice group in the firm’s Norfolk office. His practice will focus on aspects of maritime law, riparian rights, environmental law and public procurement law. Sump was previously managing partner at Crenshaw, Ware & Martin PLC and also served as a commissioned officer and law specialist in the United States Coast Guard, eventually reaching the rank of lieutenant commander.
Sump has served on the board of governors of the Virginia Bar Association as chair of the law practice management division. He is also a member of the Maritime Law Association, the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute, the Hampton Roads Maritime Association and the Propeller Club of Hampton Roads.
He received his undergraduate degree in 1979 from the United States Coast Guard Academy, an MBA in 1985 from Cleveland State University and a law degree in 1988 from the College of William and Mary.
Jeffrey H. Gray has joined the complex litigation practice group in the firm’s Virginia Beach office.
Gray previously practiced with the law firms of LeClairRyan and Willcox & Savage. His practice includes litigation involving securities, banking, accounting, financial and business issues.
Gray currently serves on the VBA board of governors and on the board of the Virginia Law Foundation. He previously has served as chair of the Virginia State Bar litigation section and president of the Virginia Beach Bar Association.
Gray received his undergraduate degree in 1977 from the University of South Carolina, and his law degree in 1981 from Washington & Lee University.

Stefan M. Calos, a member of the business, finance and real estate practice group and shareholder in the law firm of Sands Anderson Marks & Miller, was recently given the Heritage Award by the Historic Hopewell Foundation Inc. in recognition of his pro bono legal work as the foundation’s general counsel.
Calos is a past chair of Hopewell’s architectural review board. His law practice focuses on business and real estate transactions and issues, small business financing matters, trust and estate planning and counsel to clients regarding historic rehabilitation tax credits.

Claude M. “Mick” Kicklighter will join George Mason University as director of the Critical Infrastructure Protection Program, a project that specializes in basic and applied interdisciplinary research in critical infrastructure protection and security and defense issues.
A retired Army lieutenant general, Kicklighter served in a number of senior positions in the Departments of Defense, State and Veterans Affairs. Prior to serving as inspector general, he was chief of staff to the secretary of Veterans Affairs. In 2004, he was designated as special advisor to the deputy secretary of state for Stabilization and Security Operations in Iraq and was previously director of the Department of Defense’s Iraq Transition Team.
Kicklighter is a graduate of Mercer University and holds a master’s degree from George Washington University. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

Roy D. Turner was elected as vice-chair of the American Association of Justice Nursing Home Litigation Group at its annual convention held in Philadelphia last month. Turner is the founder of the Law Office of Roy D. Turner, PLLC.

Stephen M. Smith of Hampton has recently been elected as the chairman of the Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation Group of the American Association of Justice.
Smith is president of the Brain Injury Association of Virginia and a Charter Fellow of The American Academy of Trial Counsel. He is licensed to practice law in Virginia, New York and Washington, D.C.
