STAFFORD—A clergyman who was the spiritual leader of a Stafford church for more than 40 years has been sentenced to five years in prison for molesting a teenage boy in the 1980s.
The Rev. George O. Lowe was sentenced Tuesday in Stafford Circuit Court on two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.
The 71-year-old minister was the pastor of Mount Hope Baptist Church for 43 years until his removal from the pulpit earlier this year.
The offenses occurred in the church in 1984 and 1985. The child had been sent to him for counseling.
The charge was filed after Detective Don Lenhart asked the victim to wear a wire and meet with Lowe, who admitted the molestation.
