VSB to close its office in Northern Virginia

The Virginia State Bar will close its Alexandria office when its lease expires in September 2009.

VSB Executive Director Karen A. Gould said the closing will save about $200,000 a year. The office has four attorneys and two support staff who prosecute lawyer disciplinary cases.

The attorneys in the office have been given an option of teleworking from their homes with support from Richmond, Gould said. The two support positions will be eliminated.

“Advances in technology and communication have made it possible to continue the excellent public protection services provided by our experienced Northern Virginia attorneys without incurring the expense of keeping the office up and running,” Gould said.
She added, “This change is part of the Virginia State Bar’s efforts to efficiently use the dues paid by our experienced Northern Virginia attorneys without incurring the expense of keeping the office up and running.”

The VSB has had an office in Northern Virginia since 1993, when it opened in McLean. It moved to Alexandria in 1997.
