On Oct. 17, a three-judge panel suspended Steven S. Biss’s license to practice law for a year and a day after a four-day hearing in the Chesterfield County Courthouse. At the end of Virginia State Bar counsel’s evidence, Biss acknowledged violations of legal ethics related to his handling of the attempted purchase of the stock in a corporation by his corporate client. The violations included representations that he held cash in escrow to close the transaction when he had not received it.
Biss, who practices in Richmond, agreed to accept the judges’ findings on punishment and to waive any appeal of those findings.
He has filed a motion to reconsider the sanction.
