Harrisonburg’s Domonoske honored for legal aid work

The Virginia Poverty Law Center has launched its new John Kent Shumate Jr. Advocate of the Year awards by recognizing two Virginians who have worked to enhance the rights of the downtrodden.
Harrisonburg lawyer Tom Domonoske works primarily on auto sales fraud cases and often helps the local legal aid office. “Tom does not merely ‘demonstrate’ his passion and commitment to justice. He lives and breathes it,” said John Whitfield, executive director of Blue Ridge Legal Services. Domonoske received the VPLC honor recently at a statewide legal aid conference in Virginia Beach.
The Shumate awards each year will go to both a lawyer and non-lawyer. The inaugural non-lawyer award went to homeless advocate Sue Capers, founder of the Virginia Coalition for the Homeless and longtime lobbyist on behalf of the poor and homeless at the Virginia General Assembly.
