ARLINGTON—The Mine Safety and Health Administration has fined a Wise County mine and a trucking company $210,000 in a July accident that permanently disabled a driver.
MSHA fined Bresee Trucking $165,000 and Guest Mountain Mining Corp. $45,000 for failing to properly train the driver and for faulty equipment on the truck. The companies can fight the fines.
On July 31, the driver was injured while watering the main haul road with a water truck. As he descended a steep grade, he missed a gear and went down the hill in neutral, unable to slow the truck because of a brake system malfunction. The water tank detached from the truck and slid into the cab after the truck came to a stop.
