The council of the American Law Institute (ALI) has elected George Mason University professor Michael I. Krauss of Arlington as one of its 79 new members.

Shalanda Franklin-Verdell has joined the Norfolk office of Vandeventer Black. Franklin-Verdell concentrates her practice in estate planning and administration, labor and employment, business transactions, creditor’s rights and general litigation. She earned her law degree from the College of William & Mary and her undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University.

Three lawyers have joined the firm BrownGreer PLC as counsel: Morgan Meador, Elizabeth Smyers and Phillip Strunk.

Meador is a recent graduate of University of Richmond law school. She will oversee various aspects of claims administration and specialize in the design and application of eligibility criteria.

Smyers is involved in all aspects of claims processes and reporting, with a specialty in the design and application of eligibility criteria and the assessment of fraud and other irregularities in submitted claims. She previously served eight years as assistant commonwealth’s attorney for Chesterfield County.

Strunk assists in the interpretation of the mass claim settlement agreement. He also oversees the claims processing, database design and payment of class action settlements. Strunk studied at the Emanuel College of Cambridge University. He rejoins the firm after doing litigation work at another Richmond law firm.

Lucia Anna (Pia) Trigiani was recently appointed as a member of Virginia’s 11-member Common Interest Community Board. Trigiani is a real estate attorney and partner with the MercerTrigiani law firm. She currently chairs Community Association Institute’s government and public affairs committee. In 2000, she served as president of the Washington Metropolitan chapter of CAI and continues to participate in the organization as a frequent lecturer, trainer and author.

Trigiani earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and her law degree from the University of Richmond. She currently serves as a member of the board of governors of the Virginia Bar Association, the work group on common interest community issues of the Virginia Housing Commission and the Community Associations Institute Virginia legislative action committee.

Craig B. Young has joined LeClairRyan as a partner in the firm’s bankruptcy practice group. Young focuses his practice on creditors’ rights, bankruptcy litigation, commercial transactions and commercial litigation. Young also serves as an adjunct law professor at George Mason University, teaching courses in bankruptcy law and Chapter 11 reorganization. He is a graduate of George Mason University law school and American University, where he earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees.

Two attorneys have joined the Richmond law firm of Christian & Barton LLP as associates.

Noelle M. James has joined the litigation practice group, and will focus her efforts on commercial litigation, employment issues, products liability claims and creditors’ rights. She received her law degree from Regent University and her undergraduate degree from Centre College.

Sara Lloyd Hendon is a member of the healthcare and business organization practice groups, and will concentrate her practice on reimbursement and coding issues, Medicare and Medicaid issues and appeals, regulatory affairs and general corporate business matters. She holds a law degree from the University of Richmond, a master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia.

Robert E. Eicher of Williams Mullen received the 2008-2009 Hunter W. Martin Professionalism Award at the Richmond Bar Association’s monthly luncheon meeting. The award recognizes Eicher for his dedication and commitment to professionalism within the field of law.

Eicher joined Williams Mullen in 1965 after serving for three years in the U.S. Air Force. He focuses his practice on civil litigation in commercial, business, wills, trusts and estate-related matters. He became a partner with the firm in 1968. Eicher has served as general counsel for Williams Mullen and chair of the firm’s conflicts and opinion letter committees. He also served on numerous standing committees for the Virginia State Bar, including the Committee on Legal Ethics and the Disciplinary Board.
