The ACLU of Virginia thinks those angry Gloucester County citizens who tried to oust four county supervisors should not be penalized for their activism. The ACLU is announcing that it will consider coming to the citizens’ defense if they are ordered to pay the supervisors’ legal fees.
The supervisors claim more than $100,000 in legal fees for fending off the recall petition filed by a group of 41 Gloucester Countians. The recall petition was dismissed for technical deficiencies, a common fate for such actions. A hearing on the fee petition is scheduled tomorrow.
