The deadline for seeking bar association endorsements for a pending vacancy on the Virginia Court of Appeals isn’t until Dec. 29.
But already, three names of potential candidates have surfaced. They are:
• Arlington Circuit Judge Joanne F. Alper
• Leesburg lawyer Alexander N. Levay Jr.
• Loudoun County Circuit Judge Burke F. McCahill.
All three hail from Northern Virginia, as does the judge they would succeed, Judge Jean Harrison Clements of Loudoun County.
After Clements leaves the court Dec. 31, the judge with a home base closest to the most populous portion of the state will be Judge James W. Haley Jr. from Stafford County.
