Lawyers for Norfolk’s “Hula Hoop Lady” plan to sue a police officer who repeatedly used a Taser to arrest her.
The Hula Hoop Lady apparently passes time on Granby Street by hooping to music from a portable radio. A Norfolk policeman who sought to arrest her for a noise violation in October shocked her three times with a Taser as he tried to get her to place her hands behind her back for handcuffing.
Norfolk lawyer Howard Copeland is teaming up with brain injury lawyers Stephen Smith and Carlton Bennett to represent Pamela Brown, the Hula Hoop Lady, who suffered traumatic brain injury in a prior incident.
The Virginian-Pilot has the story and video of the arrest.
