Blue Line Media Inc. v. Redmon Group Inc.

Type of Case: Breach of contract, Virginia Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act

Court: Alexandria Circuit Court

Attorneys: Raighne C. Delaney, David A. Temeles Jr., Arlington

Summary: Blue Line Media Inc., a law enforcement recruiting business, retained Redmon Group, a Web site developer, to create a custom interactive Web site. Redmon estimated the cost at $600,000, and Blue Line paid the company more than $543,000 before giving up and canceling the contract.

The case may be the first in which recovery was based on the Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act, which makes it clear that a Web site developer has a duty build and deliver a site that meets industry standards. The verdict was returned in December 2008 and the defendant is considering an appeal.
