Doe v. Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority

Type of Case: Personal injury, pedestrian hit by bus in a crosswalk

Summary: Plaintiff, a paralegal, was struck in a crosswalk by a Metrobus at 7th Street and Pennsvylania Avenue in Washington. The driver was at first unaware that he had struck anyone, and plaintiff held on to a bike rack on the front of the bus for a distance of 37 feet until the screams of passengers caused the driver to stop.

She suffered back injuries that required the fusion of two vertebrae and caused premature arthritis. She also has chronic, permanent pain and an anxiety disorder. Her medical expenses before settlement totaled $120,000.

The case was filed in U.S. District Court in Alexandria.
