Work on the new Thomas Jefferson School of Law in California has come to a temporary halt with discovery of the remains of an ancient mammoth. The creature died some 500,000 years ago at a site in what is now downtown San Diego.
Jefferson himself apparently was so fascinated with such discoveries that he had a collection of mammoth bones at the White House.
According to the school’s news release (which includes other pictures), the fossil find will delay construction of the law school’s ultra-modern high-rise downtown campus by about 3 weeks.
