Published: March 2, 2009
Vanessa Hicks, the deputy public defender in Arlington since May 2005, has been appointed to the top spot in the office.
She succeeds John C. Young, who has been ill and left the office on long-term disability.
A graduate of the College of William and Mary and the Washington and Lee University law school, Hicks was in private practice in Lexington for four years before joining the Lynchburg public defender’s office in 1993.
She also worked as an assistant public defender in Fairfax and Charlottesville before moving to Arlington. The office has 13 public defender slots.
