Talk about signs of the times. Here’s an item that has more strands of current stuff than you thought imaginable. Take the economy. Add law firms. Make that law firms that need to cut staff and/or lawyers. Add general paranoia about the above. Add the Web and the instant news cycle created by bloggers. What do you get?
A PR mess, if you’re not careful, according to Jaffe Associates, a DC-based public relations firm that advises the legal community. Jaffe adds up all those items into a PR-tip sheet on “Planning for Law Firm Layoffs.”
The nut of their advice: Be aware that any internal info you send around likely will get leaked to a blogger and it’ll be public before you want it to be. Call it message control.
