A federal indictment claims that an unidentified police officer helped protect a Chesapeake man accused of running a $10 million drug operation.
Federal authorities say the six-year drug operation was based at the former club Encore Lounge and led by the club’s owner, Anthony Gonzalez, reports The Virginian-Pilot.
The drug ring spanned nationwide, and also had ties to South America. According to the indictment, the operation has distributed more than a ton of marijuana and more than 100 pounds of cocaine throughout the Hampton Roads area since 2003.
Three suspects have been arrested so far, but as of late yesterday, Gonzalez was still at large.
