Attorney Mark Levy found dead at DC office

Washington lawyer Mark I. Levy apparently took his own life this morning at his office at the firm of Kilpatrick Stockton, according to news reports.

Mr. Levy was the head of the firm’s Supreme Court and appellate advocacy practice.  Published reports indicate that Levy shot himself.

Mr. Levy had served occasionally as an adjunct faculty member at the U.Va. law school in the past several years, teaching appellate practice.  The school reports he was not currently on the faculty.

Mr. Levy’s death comes one day after a report that Kilpatrick Stockton was laying off 24 associates and counsel at U.S. offices of the Atlanta-based firm.

The apparent suicide also comes in the wake of the suicide of the chief financial officer of mortgage giant Freddie Mac.  David Kellermann was found dead April 22 in the basement of his northern Virginia home.
