Julia Dudley, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia, has seen a rise in complex criminal cases coming through the federal court in recent months.
But these complicated crimes, such as white-collar fraud, are the kinds of cases that federal prosecutors want to be heard in federal courts, she said.
“With a federal grand jury, you’re not confined to a city or state,” Dudley tells the Daily Progress. “We can compel witnesses from all over the country. We have resources that aren’t available to the commonwealth’s attorneys, such as federal agencies.”
