Child support collection is up

Economic stimulus money means more opportunities for enforcement of child support obligations.

Virginia collected more than $639 million in child-support payments in the past 12 months, up $10 million from the previous year, reports the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

In many cases, the Virginia Department of Social Services has relied on unemployment benefits, tax refunds and stimulus checks.

But child support collection has still declined in certain inner city areas, such as Richmond and Petersburg, due to a rising unemployement rate. Payments are also down in Henrico, where many big employers have gone bankrupt, closed operations and laid off thousands.

  1. There are a couple of cases being heard (this Wednesday at the Bankruptcy Court in Harrisonburg and next Monday in Prince William Circuit Court) that could cripple DCSE as a legal entity and render 20 years of child support orders void ab initio…

Unfortunately, VLW has declined to cover any post-7/1/2008 judgments AGAINST DCSE notwithstanding their attempt to legislatively “fix” a problem that can’t be fixed by legislation.

You guys really cover the collective butts of the legal community.
