Candidates for governor cross swords at VBA meet

HOT SPRINGS—Both candidates for governor say they would seek to restore the judicial evaluation program.
Their comments came just days after Virginia Chief Justice Leroy Rountree Hassell Sr. pronounced the controversial program to be “dead.”
At the initial debate between Republican Bob McDonnell and Democrat Creigh Deeds, both men endorsed a merit-based system of judge selection.
