Fewer lawyers on the Hill 
Number of attorneys in General Assembly continues to drop

The number of lawyers serving in the General Assembly and writing Virginia’s laws appears to be declining, and some lament that the process is more difficult when fewer legislators have legal training.
There are currently 25 attorneys among the 100 members of the House of Delegates. Nineteen of the 40 Senators are lawyers. The numbers were ...

We should note that Scott Surovell was inadvertently left out of the list of lawyer candidates running for the House. He’s a Democrat in the 44th district race for the seat of retiring Del. Kris Amundson, D-Mount Vernon.
