Second lawsuit filed over Chesapeake coal waste site

A new lawsuit accuses Dominion Virginia Power of using a proposed golf course as a ruse to create a large dump site for coal ash.

The suit was brought by 62 homeowners and family members in the neighborhoods surrounding the Battlefield Golf Club, reports The Virginian-Pilot.

This comes on the heels of another class action suit filed in March against Dominion, the golf club and various other parties. Residents claimed that coal ash, a by-product of some coal-burning power plants, had begun to leach into the groundwater. The suit seeks $1.5 billion to clean and restore the site.

The new suit alleges that Dominion was aware of the hazards, and deliberately misled Chesapeake residents and officials.

  1. Will the state of Virginia and/or local law enforcement agencies pursue an investigation into the criminal violations? Surely everyone recognizes that, in addition to the civil violations, there is also a criminal violation in this matter.

  3. In Virginia, what state agency is responsible for environmental crimes investigations? Will the EPA or other federal agencies responsible for environmental crimes investigations be contacted? Okay, citizens of the Chesapeake area, now it is time for you to become proactive and demand justice be executed in this matter that has been perpetrated in your back yard.
