Contempt reversed
Bar’s common practice is acknowledged

A criminal defense attorney who did not appear for a court date after agreeing to a continuance with a prosecutor could not be found guilty of contempt of court because he did not intend to interfere with the administration of justice, the Supreme Court of Virginia ruled last week.
