Franklin County Circuit Judge William Alexander was passed over when judicial reappointments were routinely approved by the General Assembly last month. Published reports suggested several delegates had concerns about Alexander’s handling of a special grand jury report that criticized management in the local sheriff’s office.
This week, Franklin County lawyers voted to go on record in Alexander’s defense. “We felt like we had to do something to stop this and say, ‘Look, he’s a good judge,’ ” Rocky Mount lawyer Carolyn Furrow told The Roanoke Times.
