Former Grundy lawyer David Cecil pleaded guilty Monday to federal charges of mail fraud, money laundering and tax evasion in connection with his handling of the estate of a Buchanan County physician.
The government says Cecil stole more than $175,000 from trust accounts he was hired to administer for the estates of Robert and Nancy Baxter, according to a news release. Instead of distributing the decedents’ money to family members, Cecil acknowledged he took much of it for his own purposes.
Sentencing is set for Jan. 24.
The Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board in 2009 entered a summary order revoking Cecil’s law license.
