Pro bono plus free CLE

The Greater Richmond Bar Foundation is just one of the Richmond-area groups that has developed programs to celebrate National Pro Bono Week, from Oct. 24 through Oct. 30, that show lawyers how to lend a hand.

Even if you’ve already had lunch, it’s not too late to earn two hours of free CLE credit today. From 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the University of Richmond law school moot courtroom, there is a program on “Leveling the Playing Field: How the Community Benefits from Protecting Low Wage and Immigrants Workers.” Contact Tara Casey, tcasey@richmond.edu, to register.

On Tuesday, Oct. 26, Frances Goldman, of The Tax Complex LC, presents a session on new tax laws and pro bono opportunities with the Community Tax Law Project, at Hunton & Williams LLP in downtown Richmond. To register for the presentation, which runs from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m., contact fgoldman@taxcomplex.com.

The University of Richmond Carrico Center is offering a “Law Over Lunch” session on protective orders in Virginia on Thursday, Oct. 2, at the UR downtown location, from noon to 1:15 p.m. The program carries one hour of free CLE credit. To register, contact Tara Casey, tcasey@richmond.edu.

There is an on-site volunteer opportunity to do “Wills for Seniors” on Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Senior Connections on Grace Street in Richmond, with sign-ups handled by Andy Nea, anea@williamsmullen.com. The first session runs from 9:00 a.m. to noon, the second session starts at 1:00 and goes until 4:00 p.m.

Spotts Fain PC will host a Friday lunch program in conjunction with the GRBF, beginning at noon, with a Legal Round Table on “Conquering the Challenges of Pro Bono Volunteerism in Your Workplace.” Contact Ali Fannon of the GRBF to register: afannon@grbf.org.
