Salem lawyer accepts license revocation

A Salem lawyer facing Virginia State Bar findings that he misused funds in his client trust account agreed to revocation of his law license last month.

Steven F. Helm consented to revocation based on findings that his trust account “was overdrawn for insufficient funds on several occasions,” that payments to be made on behalf of clients were delayed in three instances, and that he paid tuition for his son’s school directly from the trust account, according to an affidavit released by the VSB.

The VSB’s investigator reported that disbursements from the trust account could not be linked to clients who were owed the money.

Helm, who apparently was not represented by counsel, consented to revocation March 23. A VSB order of revocation was entered Friday.
