Kenney named U.S. Bankruptcy Judge

Brian F. Kenney will be the new U.S. Bankruptcy Judge in Alexandria. The judges of the 4th U.C. Circuit Court of Appeals tapped Kenney for the pending vacancy created when Judge Stephen S. Mitchell announced he will retire from the court Aug. 31. Mitchell has served since 1994.

Kenney is a principal in the Tysons Corner office of Miles & Stockbridge PC.

His practice has focused on representing creditors, debtors, and bankruptcy trustees since he passed the Virginia bar in 1983. He was a two-term president of the Northern Virginia Bankruptcy Bar Association, and a past board member for the Virginia State Bar Bankruptcy Section.

A native of Fredericksburg, Kenney graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1980; he earned his law degree from the University of Virginia law school in 1983.
