Virginia lawyers will be able to renew their bar licenses online in June. It’s the first time the Virginia State Bar has offered “e-renewal,” but it may not be a boon for all attorneys.
The web-based renewal form will allow only one lawyer at a time to check the boxes and pay dues by credit card. For now, there is no provision for a law firm to submit multiple renewals and pay for the group at one time through the online service. Online renewals for groups of attorneys will be coming later, according to a VSB release.
The VSB says online renewal will be available in early June through the secure “Member Login” area of VSB.org.
Members who choose “Online Membership Renewal” will certify whether they have are covered by a professional liability insurance policy, select what voluntary sections they wish to join, and pay their mandatory annual dues (including the mandatory $25 Clients’ Protection Fund fee), plus any section dues, by credit card.
