Richmond-based LeClairRyan has merged with a 14-lawyer New York firm with connections to corporations in Germany, France and the United Kingdom.
LeClairRyan chairman Gary D. LeClair said Biedermann, Reif, Hoenig & Ruff PC manages litigation in this country for many of those companies. The expectation is that LeClairRyan lawyers will be doing much of that trial work.
“We got lucky,” LeClair said. ‘It’s such a great firm and it fits so neatly. We’ll probably talk to 50 firms this year, and it’s not easy to find a fit.”
The firm now has 21 offices and hopes to open new ones soon in Florida, Texas and the Midwest, he said. “We want to increase our reach across the country so that a when a company comes to us with work, we can handle it in as many places as possible.”
With the merger, LeClair Ryan will have about 40 lawyers in New York City. It has about 340 lawyers in all and typically has an additional 50 to 125 contract lawyers at any one time providing litigation support.
