Family of attorney killed in hit-and-run settles civil suit – $1,255,000 Settlement

Roanoke attorney Tom Farrell, 49, was running at 5:45 a.m. when he was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver. The defendant, Jeffrey Young, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and hit-and-run. He was acquitted of all charges by a Roanoke County jury. The plaintiff’s decedent had insurance of $2,000,000. There were no witnesses to the accident, and plaintiff’s estate compromised due to difficulty proving negligence against the defendant and/or John Doe.

Defendant moved to seal the settlement, which was denied.
