Prosecutors drop charges in C’ville soccer bite case

By: The Associated Press

CHARLOTTESVILLE (AP) Assault charges have been dropped against a high school soccer player accused of biting an opponent during a game.

Albermarle County Circuit Court Judge Cheryl V. Higgins granted the prosecution’s motion to not prosecute the case against Katrina Ditta on Wednesday.

Ditta’s attorney said that a jury could have found reasonable doubt if the case had gone to trial.

Ditta was accused of biting a Western Albemarle High School player during a semifinal conference tournament game on May 23.

Ditta was a member of the girl’s soccer team at Fluvanna County High School. She graduated in June.

She was convicted on the misdemeanor assault charges in July in juvenile and domestic relations court. She appealed the conviction to circuit court.
