Tuesday was the last day a candidate could have filed a petition to run for president-elect of the VSB, and Weiner was the only person to file, according to VSB executive director Karen Gould.
Under the rules of succession for the VSB, Weiner will become president of the bar in June of 2015. His petition with 61 verified signatures was filed in March. Candidates need to have fifty signatures under VSB bylaws.
Since no other candidate emerged, Weiner will be elected as president-elect in a pro forma vote at the VSB annual meeting in 2014.
Current VSB president Sharon Nelson will be succeeded next year by current president-elect Kevin Martingayle, who won a contested election last November.
Weiner said he is looking forward to finishing his duties as president of the Fairfax Bar Association in June and turning his attention to VSB leadership. He spoke from a gathering of the FBA in Montreal.
