Recount orders posted online

162492954Election watchers now have ready access to the detailed orders of the special recount court established to oversee the review of ballots in the tight contest for Virginia attorney general.

Fairfax County Circuit Court Clerk John Frey has posted the two orders on his office’s website.

Fairfax County is ground zero for the recount, with lawyers for Republican Mark Obenshain asking for special scrutiny of certain boxes of election materials. Obenshain lawyer William Hurd said local officials failed to properly secure those materials after the election, so ballots in those boxes should not be counted right away.

The recount is overseen by a three-judge Richmond City Circuit Court panel led by Judge Beverly W. Snukals.  Also on the panel are circuit Judges Junius P. Fulton III of Norfolk and Judge Joseph W. Milam Jr. of Danville.

Obenshain requested the recount after an apparent 165-vote loss to Democrat Mark Herring.
