Judicial evaluations on track for reinstatement

A plan to restart Virginia’s judicial evaluation program has won approval from the Senate Finance Committee.

The panel voted Tuesday 14-3 to advance House Bill 272 to the Senate floor.

The proposal calls for spending $530,000 over two years to restart the evaluation program in which lawyers filled out survey forms about the judges they practiced before. The survey results would be used both to counsel the judges and to inform legislators as judges come up for re-election.
