Virginia bar groups are announcing their endorsements for the upcoming vacancy on the federal district court bench in western Virginia.
Candidate interviews by some bar groups took place at the Virginia State Bar offices on Wednesday. Ten candidates expressed interest in the seat being vacated in August by U.S. District Judge Samuel G. Wilson.
The Virginia Trial Lawyers Association deemed “highly qualified” former Del. Ward Armstrong, U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Ballou and Roanoke lawyer John Fishwick. Listed as “qualified” by the VTLA were Salem lawyer Elizabeth Dillon, federal court Clerk Julia Dudley, law Prof. Rachel Harmon, U.S. Magistrate Judge Pamela Sargent and First Assistant Federal Public Defender Fay Spence.
The Virginia Bar Association recommended Ballou, Dudley, Fishwick and Sargent.
