Richmond U.S. District Judge James R. Spencer was named “Leader of the Year” by the 2015 class of Leaders in the Law.
Virginia Lawyers Weekly’s Leaders in the Law program, now in its 10th year, honors attorneys and others who have made significat contributions to the practice of law.
This year’s 30-member class of honorees was recognized during a ceremony Oct. 30 at the Science Museum of Virginia.
The honorees had been asked to vote for one member of their class as Leader of the Year. This year’s leaders selected Spencer for the honor.
Appointed to the federal bench in 1986, Spencer has presided over numerous high-profile cases including the prosecution of former Gov. Bob McDonnell and his wife on public corruption charges.
