FREDERICKSBURG (AP) The fatal shooting of a woman near Fredericksburg Dec. 28 led to an interstate police chase in which the suspect twice shot at officers before turning his gun on himself, police reported.
The Stafford County sheriff’s office said deputies responded to a domestic-related shooting Thursday morning and found an unidentified woman with three gunshot wounds to the chest, news outlets reported. She died at the scene.
A Virginia State Police release said a trooper spotted the suspect’s car on Interstate 95, leading to a chase during which the male suspect fired at both the trooper — which led to a three-vehicle crash — and a deputy.
The chase ended when the unidentified suspect sideswiped another car. He was airlifted to a hospital for life-threatening injuries. The sheriff’s office said the suspect appeared to have shot himself in the head.
