Roanoke Bar awards Kincannon scholarships to local students

The Roanoke Bar Association has awarded five $2,500 James N. Kincanon scholarships.
The scholarship program was established by the Roanoke Bar Association Foundation in 1997 in recognition of James N. Kincanon’s 50-plus years as secretary-treasurer of the Association. Since its inception, the foundation has funded $76,600 in scholarships.
The 2008 recipients are:
• Aaron Bruce Cook, a 2001 graduate of Salem High School and a 2007 graduate of Roanoke College who is attending Washington & Lee University law school.
• Karen R. Harshfield, a 2008 graduate of Northside High School who will be attending the College of William & Mary.
• Bridget Marie Tainer-Parkins, a 2002 graduate of Cave Spring High School and a graduate of Roanoke College who is attending Washington & Lee University law school.
• Meredith Louise Tenison, a 2002 graduate of Cave Spring High School and a graduate of Duke University who is attending Harvard Law School.
• Michael Ryan Wakefield, a 2003 graduate of Cave Spring High School and a graduate of the University of Virginia who is attending the College of William & Mary law school.
