The University of Richmond law school will host a debate on “Hard Questions about Soft Money: Campaign Finance Reform and Fiscal Freedom in Today’s Economy.”

The debate on Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. will be held in the law school’s Moot Court Room. Sponsored by the Richmond Journal of Law and the Public Interest, it is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.

Laura MacCleery of the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law will speak for campaign finance reform. Reid Cox, legal director at the Center for Competitive Politics in Washington, D.C., will speak for fiscal freedom. John Pagan, university professor at Richmond and former dean of the law school, will moderate.

The debate is part of the Emanuel Emroch Lecture Series, established by the late Emanuel Emroch, his wife Bertha, and their friends and associates. The series’ endowment is currently supported by Emroch’s son, Walter Emroch, and his wife. Emanuel Emroch received a B.A. in 1928 and a law degree in 1931, both from Richmond.
