The Ninth Judicial Circuit in Virginia at long last got a new circuit judge earlier this month, when York County J&DR Judge Richard Y. AtLee Jr. got the nod.
AtLee was sworn in on Aug. 15 by none other than his mother, Isabel H. AtLee, who is the chief judge of the 9th Judicial District.
Overseeing the ceremony, no doubt with great pride, was Hampton lawyer Richard Y. AtLee, who provided the snap of the event at right.

Here’s a good one to start your day (courtesy of my son’s girlfriend):
“Past, Present and Future walk into a bar. It was tense…”
That boy has good taste.

Credit goes to the Wall Street Journal once again.
Today they have an editorial assessing the Republican presidential race after the weekend. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., took the Iowa straw poll and Texas Gov. Rick Perry officially entered the race. Consider the contest as moving into high gear, hence the Journal’s headline:
Bachmann-Perry Overdrive
I’d say it’s fair to say you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

A guy in Winchester with convictions for dealing coke found a way to pay off his fines and court costs … dealing more coke, allegedly.
Eddy Quintana was convicted in 2007 of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and in 2008 of distribution of cocaine.
The Northern Virginia Daily reports that cops went to his girlfriend’s house in Winchester, and after getting permission to search the place, found a lockbox with cocaine and a gun in it.
A deputy testified at a hearing yesterday that Quintana admitted the drugs were his and that he said he “had been selling cocaine to get money to pay his fines and costs so he could get off probation.”
OK, so that plan didn’t work so well. Quintana now faces additional drug and weapons charges.
