Richmond City Councilwoman Delores L. McQuinn won the Democratic nomination to succeed Richmond Mayor-Elect Dwight Clinton Jones on Saturday.
McQuinn prevailed over attorney Carlos Brown at a Democratic firehouse primary, 398-82. McQuinn had supported the mayoral bid of Jones, who has served in the House of Delegates since 1994.
Jones becomes mayor Jan. 1; a special election for his seat is scheduled for Jan. 6. Since no Republican has yet declared for the contest, McQuinn’s nomination victory is tantamount to election in the heavily Democratic district.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch has the story.
