Cranwell wants another round as Dem chair

March 11th, 2009 · No Comments · ELECTIONS

crcVinton attorney and former Del. C. Richard Cranwell has advised fellow Democrats that he wants another four-year term as chairman of the state party.

Cranwell, who had announced plans to step down as the party’s leader, said he changed his mind because of the importance of this year’s election for governor, according to The Roanoke Times.

With Cranwell as chairman, Virginia Democrats won a governor’s race and two U.S. Senate seats, gained majorities in the state Senate and in the state’s congressional delegation, and carried the state in last year’s presidential election.

Virginia Republicans choose their leader April 4, with state chair Del. Jeff Frederick facing opposition from some party leaders.
