U.Va. law grad Jamie McDonald recently was waiting to lunch with his father at a Tulsa restaurant when his phone rang. It was Chief Justice John Roberts with a job offer — he wanted McDonald as a law clerk for the upcoming term. McDonald naturally accepted.
About 30 seconds later, his father appeared. “He said ‘How are you doing’ and I said ‘Pretty good Dad, I just got hired by the chief justice.’ And he said ‘Well, that’s not a bad day.’”
McDonald, who graduated from U.Va’s law school in 2007, currently teaches at the University of Tulsa law school, according to the U.Va. announcement. He also has clerked at the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and worked at the White House Counsel’s office.
