You’ll probably find it as comforting as we did to know that most long-haul truckers have computers in their rigs that allow them to communicate with dispatchers – and to send and receive e-mail and browse the Internet.
The New York Times has an article today that is entertaining, informative – and frightening. It focuses on one such trucker who drove for more than two decades without an accident despite the availability of all sorts of electronic gadgets, not to mention two Chihuahuas.
He finally had an accident when he took his eyes off the road to pick up a cup of coffee.
The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute and its study of what distracts truckers gets prominent play in the article.

Ouch. What a way to ruin a perfect driving record.
