Charge against Franklin County sheriff is dismissed

November 12th, 2010 · No Comments · Criminal Cases, Judges

The one misdemeanor charge that emerged from a special grand jury investigation of the Franklin County sheriff’s office now has been dismissed on the motion of a special prosecutor.

The grand jury investigation produced a report critical of management at the office of Sheriff Ewell Hunt and led to a legislative appearance for Franklin County Circuit Judge William Alexander, who later acknowledged he should have stepped aside from the sheriff’s investigation.

Special prosecutor David Grimes, the Pittsylvania County commonwealth’s attorney, told The Roanoke Times he consulted with other sheriffs before deciding to drop the charge against Hunt.
