Business owners can create companies online with SCC system

September 12th, 2011 · No Comments · SCC, Technology

The Virginia State Corporation Commission has taken a giant leap away from its kludgy web-based service of two years ago with the debut this month of streamlined processes for creating corporations and LLCs online.

In what the SCC clerk calls the “crowning achievement” of the agency’s eFile project, online users now can pick one of two methods for forming a corporation or a limited liability company, depending on the organization’s complexity.

The eFile “Express” option provides real-time formation and confirmation forĀ  small businesses, the agency says. Complex formation documents are subject to more intensive, manual review.

The option of forming Virginia companies by computer was a high priority of the Commission, said Clerk Joel H. Peck. Virginia issued nearly 48,000 charters or certificates of organization to businesses last year, the agency reports.
