A prominent Roanoke lawyer was pronounced dead after a three-car wreck Sunday night on a narrow road north of Salem.
Richard Lee Lawrence, 74, a well-known criminal lawyer in Roanoke, was reported killed in a crash on U.S. Route 311. Police said his Jeep crossed the center line and struck an oncoming vehicle head-on. A vehicle following also was involved. Officers told WDBJ a woman in the car with Lawrence was taken to a hospital.
Police said they did not believe alcohol or speed were factors in the crash.
Lawrence is a former Roanoke City commonwealth’s attorney who earned a reputation in private practice as a skilled and tenacious criminal, traffic and divorce lawyer. The Roanoke Times has more on one of Roanoke’s most famous courtroom figures.
