Food Frenzy starts March 30

The third annual Legal Food Frenzy will run from March 30 through April 10 with a goal of raising 1.5 million pounds of food to be distributed through the state’s regional food banks.

Firms interested in participating can register online at the event’s Web site.

The first Food Frenzy generated 679,000 pounds of food, and law firms contributed almost 1.5 million pounds last year.

The prize is the Attorney General’s Cup, presented the last two years by former AG Bob McDonnell. His successor, Bill Mims, is also an enthusiastic supporter of the program and will present the cup this year.

Last year, 181 law firms participated in the event, from the state’s largest firms to sole practitioners. The three-lawyer firm of Schettine & Nguyen PLC, which generated 4,200 pounds of food per staff member, was the overall winner, but several awards are presented based on the size of the firm.

The attorney general’s office, the Young Lawyers Division of the Virginia Bar Association and the Federation of Virginia Food Banks coordinate the effort.
